Pidy bakes them brown on solar energy
First industrial baker on green energy!

Ieper, October 28th 2011. Pidy (Patisserie Industrielle Dehaeck Ypres) can now be known as the first green industrial bakery in Belgium, possibly even in Europe. "Rising energy costs and environmental awareness prompted us to switch to environmentally friendly solar energy,"says CEO Thierry Dehaeck. "We joined up for this with the specialist renewable energy company Enfinity. They placed the solar panels on the available company roofs." Pidy thus actively helps to achieve the EU climate targets.

This week the 880 solar panels covering an area of ​5.464 m² on the factory building, located at Jaagpad 2, are being connected to the electricity network. The reprocessed energy will be completely used by Pidy, this means that 12% of total annual power use now will be green.

In addition, a further 4,700 m² or 624 solar panels were placed on the roof of the building Jaagpad 8. Excess energy thus generated will be returned to the national grid and corresponds to green power for 35 or so families.

For Pidy, this fits into a broader policy on sustainability. The organisation of waste is another aspect of Pidy's commitment to the environment. Waste like baked and wet dough for example, is not simply thrown away , but reused as animal food (GMP).
